CORNELL PTO MINUTES
MAY 19, 2010
Call to Order: 7:05 p.m.
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS
Present: Tammy Deppong; Jennifer Nevins-Lacasse; Wendy Johnson; Sally Sproat; Stacy Tenay; Tara Bogle; Jason Gutting; Nikki Thom Benedict; Cindy Roark; Cheri Meyer; Tara Fry
Jason presented Tammy with card thanking her for being PTO President
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Motion by Sally, seconded by Jason. Passed. 7:12
ADDITIONS TO AGENDA:
F. Yearbook
PARENT COUNCIL REPORT – CINDY ROARK:
* Dr. Kregar expressed happiness about reduced speed limit on Jolly.
* Adam Nevell’s parents are going to speak at graduation
* Discussed the differentiation with instruction and new configuration for next year (early release). Benefit both gifted students and those who are struggling. * * New reading program – role of reading specialist.
* Board Rep talked about budget. Surprised by health insurance increase (21%)
* No changes coming from state. How fund schools for next 5 years.
* 2 parent council reps for school next year (1 new, 1 old)
* Cindy will continue as rep next year
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
Student visitations begin 5/20 (1 grade level at a time) thru 6/2
5/26 – Brainstormers assembly (@1:30)
5/26 – Picnic cookout lunch
5/27 – Big Zoo lesson
6/2 – Drama club presentation
6/7 – Field Day
6/7 – Volunteer luncheon
6/9 – Final strings concert @ 10:45 (5th graders)
6/11 – Last Day of School. 10:00 assembly recognizing 4th and 5th graders
6/21 – Report cards mailed
* Updates with enrollments: There will be 3 sections for all grades with the exception of 3rd grade who will have 4. The total enrollment at this time will be 347 students.
* Car Line: Double lane to bring cars off street. Tara cannot visualize. Going to try it, but want to try a dry run. Suggestion for carpooling…Divide the ride
* Thanks to the PTO Leaders
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Tammy thanked everyone for a great year and said she has had a lot of fun.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Balance: $35,000 on hand
-Box tops check came in
-Donation from past family – Cooley family dropped off $50 check for -Cornell PTO. Her son was graduating and she presented as a thank you.
-Market Day $125.74
-Staff Appreciation $428
-New Carpets - _______
NEW BUSINESS:
A. Staff Shirt Gift for Fall
a. PTO to fund a shirt for the staff. Dressy Polo shirt was decided with a logo on front chest breast pocket. Brian at Playmakers is helping to provide shirts at cost. $20/shirt total (with embroidering). 35-40 shirts
i. Proposed budget - $1,000
Motion by Jennifer. Second by Cindy. Motion passed.
B. Gift for Kinawa PTO
a. Attempted a meeting with all elementary PTO presidents. Kinawa will be run differently next year. Will not be doing the walk/run. Fundraising up in the air. Brought president’s together to ask about sending some $ to Kinawa to help start them at the beginning of the year.
i. Central to send $300 to Kinawa
ii. Wardcliff will split between elementarys
iii. Hiawatha does there own thing
iv. Cornell – Proposal to send $500 to Kinawa
Motion by Nikki, Cindy Second. Motion passed
C. Baseball Field Refurbishment Proposal - $$
a. Finish diamond. New dirt, etc.
i. Proposal for: $1,000
Motion by Tara Bogle; Second by Cindy. Motion passed
D. Approval of 10-11 Budget - $$
a. Add Family fun night $3500
i. Jennifer motioned to pass. Cindy seconded. Passed (with addition of family fun night $$).
E. Election of PTO Officers for 2009-2010
a. President – Sally Sproat

c. Treasurer – Jason Gutting Motion by Nikki second by Cindy. Passed

COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mileage Club – Going good. 2 weeks left. MWF lunch recess 11:30-12:30
Lunch Picnic: Need 2 Volunteers to Help Serve
Market Day and other Fall Fundraisers – Innisbrook Set. Need Market Day volunteer for next year.
Summer Playdates – Volunteers have all been filled. Sally covered.
Ice Cream Social and Welcome Back Breakfast – need volunteers. Let Sally know if you know of any volunteers. Can register online.

WBB – 1st day of School
Yearbook: Yearbooks are in. Going to sell yearbooks the first week in June at lunchtime. Will sell 40-45. Yearbook signing up in the air.
