November 10, 2011, PTO MINUTES
Present: Tammy Deppong, Jason Gutting, Kathy Fortin, Tara Fry, Laurie Harkema, Karyn DeLorge, Joy Chase, Jamie Baldwin, Kris Lee, Tara Bogle, Jennifer Zambiasi, June Hicks, Kate Johnson, Zach Johnson
I. Call to Order (7:03pm) - President Tammy Deppong
II. Welcome - President Tammy Deppong
III. Approval of Minutes - Motion to approve October minutes by Jennifer Zambiasi, seconded by Tara Bogle. Motion carried.
IV. Additions to Agenda - First grade class representative (Mrs. Staudt’s class)
V. Principal’s Report - Tara Fry
A. Weekend Survival Kit program
1. Food Bank no longer involved; Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs now administer program.
2. First distribution will begin Friday, Nov 18.
B. Winter Concert - Tuesday, Dec 12.
C. Parent Council - Tuesday, Dec 12, at Cornell.
D. Thanks to PTO
1. Great support for Building and Site Sinking Fund millage.
2. Dinner provided for staff during parent-teacher conferences.
VI. President’s Report - Tammy Deppong
A. Skate Night at Edru - Nov 17
1. Partnered with Bennett Woods - 24 students from Cornell; 54 students from Bennett Woods; 116 total including students and parents.
2. Three more skate nights are scheduled throughout school year; next is Tuesday, Jan 31, 6:00-8:00pm.
B. Science Fair - to be held in February.
C. Movie Morning - scheduled for Saturday, Dec 3, “The Muppet Movie.”
VII. Treasurer’s Report - Jason Gutting
A. Monthly bank account statements distributed for review.
B. Current year spreadsheet
1. Innisbrook, Market Day and Scrip - all generating profit as expected.
2. International Festival - still expect to reimburse for expenses incurred.
3. School Club - not utilized right now, but may be used to fund Art Club if it starts up.
4. Visiting Author - may not be utilized; expenses covered by Summit Bank last year.
C. Deadlines for teacher reimbursement
1. Startup Costs - deadline is Jan 31.
2. Enrichment Grants - no real deadline.
VIII. Parent Council - No report.
IX. New Business
A. Cougar Closet and Cougar Cupboard
1. Resource for clothing and food for students in need.
2. Housed in the Learning Lab; currently supplied by Lori Greenberg.
3. Need to increase inventory
a) Solicit donations from parents - discussed donations of cash vs. goods
b) Tammy Deppong to inventory of Closet and Cupboard to further identify needs
B. Outside grounds
1. Recurrent muddy spot near sidewalk “shortcut” at northwest entrance to school.
2. Tammy Deppong to discuss with Mr. Fries.
X. Committee Reports
A. Enrichment Grant Updates - only a few submitted so far.
B. First grade class representative (Mrs. Staudt’s) - Kate Johnson
1. Need for playground equipment
a) Lunch supervisor will survey all classrooms to determine what is needed.
b) Purchases can be made using money received from Campbell Soup labels.
2. Need for more below level readers
a) All grades will be surveyed to determine need.
b) Estimated cost will be presented to PTO.
C. Family Fun Night - Jamie Baldwin/Tara Bogle
1. General meeting will be scheduled soon.
2. Discussion will focus on all aspects, including:
a) Game/prize structure
b) Parent input on games
c) Class projects
d) Theme baskets
e) Need for co-chairs
D. Festival of Trees - Tara Bogle
1. Ticket sales have commenced using form sent out in Friday folders.
2. Additional information will be provided in Alert Now.
